Jade Dercksen

I am a Barcelona-based, self-taught, South African artist. I have been exploring lines, oils, acrylic and emulsion paints in order to create artworks that hold these distinctive parts cohesively.

Over the last few years, I had the opportunity to spend more time delving into different mediums and discovered my own style. I fell in love with the methodical practice of drawing lines as it gave me a quiet space to think (or not) , feel (or not) and switch off from the outside world. For this reason I incorporate this element into all works; it´s my favourite moment of the creation process. Now, I work mainly with large canvases, combining monochrome subjects, with  expressive backgrounds to evoke moods and emotions. The line work adds a two-dimensionality to the art, which offers the viewer a unique space to wonder off in thought.

Each element holding it´s its own story in each piece. This distinctive blend of styles aim to capture the essence of a certain moment in time.

For me, words fall short in describing the depth of a picture. Through my art, I seek to resonate with viewers on a level that words cannot reach, inviting them to explore their own emotions and connect with the visual narratives I weave.
